Working to change lives, one family at a time

Esperanza’s programs are set up through our Integral Development Model (IDM), which consists of four strategic programs for human development and transformation: 1) Microfinance Services, 2) Education & Vocational Training, 3) Health Care and 4) Social Mobilization. Esperanza focuses on long-lasting solutions that enable families to help themselves. Esperanza centers on a microcredit lending program to equip the poor with the financial tools to cross the poverty line. This program assists empoverished entrepreneurs who do not have the collateral to qualify for traditional bank loans.

We then supplement this foundation of microfinace services with initiatives that imrpove education, vocational training healthcare and an integrated network of social services. Our four core programs in our DM strategy are designed to meet the most basic needs of individuals, families and communities. Results are immediate and dramatic. Families eat better, children are in school, health improves, houses are made safer, they dress better and have a positive outlook for themselves and their communities as their businesses become viable and they become economically self-sufficient.

Esperanza coordinates programs with community leaders and other organizations to improve the physical, emotional and spiritual lives of those we serve. The needs of poor children and their families are multi-faceted which require a multi-faceted approach to problem solving. We believe that cooperation with many organizations expands the possibilities for meeting community needs. Those participating in Esperanza’s programs gain access to education and vocational training, capital to start a small business, health care for their entire family and spiritual guidance.

We believe inadequate housing promotes hopelessness, creates instability for families, and increases the risks of disease. Therefore, the Housing Improvement Department’s mission is to provide dignity, stability, and health through adequate housing. Building on Esperanza’s microfinance services, the Housing Improvement Department provides financing and construction advice to achieve sustainable Human Development & Transformation.

The root causes of extreme poverty go deeper than lack of capital. Borrowers and their children need education as well as vocational and spiritual training - giving them access to practical information and skills.

Literacy courses are offered to expand their knowledge and understanding. Many of our clients never received formal schooling as children. We teach them to be literate and numerate in order to break the cycle of poverty. We work with public and private institutions from government programs to local school districts to ensure the children of our clients have the academic opportunities they need to overcome pursue their dreams.

Complimentary medical screenings and preventative health and dental care services ensure Esperanza associates and their family members have the opportunity to live healthy lives. Once a new family enters our program, an Esperanza field employee will connect them with one of our partner health clinics nearest to their home.

Their children receive basic vaccinations, women receive PAP tests that will be offered every six months and the entire family undergoes examinations and dental cleanings to discover and address any health concerns. All of this is provided free of charge to the families through local clinics that receive support from Esperanza.

Biweekly meetings with Loan Officers and their solidarity groups foster social support. Little league baseball facilities and sports training programs improve childhood development and self-confidence.

Through biblical discipleship and a Christian witness from our loan officers and community churches, Esperanza ministers to spiritual needs - restoring dignity and self-worth. This unique combination of services transforms individuals and their communities as a whole.
